IMHM -Institute of Microfilmed Hebrew Manuscript
"The Is (IMHM) has undertaken the task of collecting microfilm copies of all Hebrew manuscripts extant in public and private collections. Over 70,000 reels, representing more than 90% of known Hebrew manuscripts are available for the use of scholars and interested laymen. The IMHM located in the Jewish National and University Library offers scholars a unique facility to study, compare and collate Hebrew manuscripts found in distant locations on different continents. All the vast printed resources of Hebraica and Judaica are available in the same building. Adjoining the IMHM are the Department of Manuscripts of the JNUL housing 10,000 original MSS and the Hebrew Palaeography Project which is conducting research on the codicology and palaeography of medieval dated Hebrew MSS." SUDA ON LINE - Byzantine Lexicography
"Certain fundamental sources for the study of the ancient world are
currently accessible only to a few specially trained researchers because
they have never been provided with a sufficiently convenient interpretive
apparatus or, in some cases, even translated into modern languages. The
Suda On Line project attacks that inaccessibility by engaging the efforts
of scholars world-wide in the translation and annotation of a substantial
text that is being made available exclusively through the internet. We
have chosen to begin with the Byzantine encyclopedia known as the Suda,
a 10th century CE compilation of material on ancient literature, history,
and biography. A massive work of about 30,000 entries, and written in sometimes
dense Byzantine Greek prose, the Suda is an invaluable source for many
details that would otherwise be unknown to us about Greek and Roman antiquity,
as well as an important text for the study of Byzantine intellectual history.
Begun in January of 1998, the Suda On Line (SOL) already involves the
efforts of over one hundred scholars throughout the world. The goal of
the project is to assemble an xml-encoded database, searchable and browsable
on the web, with continuously improved annotations, bibliographies and
hypertextual links to other electronic resources in addition to the core
translation of entries in the Suda...
...But finally, what is the Suda? It is a succession of some thousands
of items, their extent varying from a single word to a page or more. In
it we find the explanation of a difficult form... or of a rare word...
a grammatical point... elucidations of words with several meanings... as
well as notes on people, places and institutions and on concepts (kosmos,
nous, physis). It is essentially an historical and literary encyclopedia,
but it is also a collection of proverbs and a kind of dictionary of quotations.
We might say that it is a 'dictionary of conversation' for the use of 'cultured'
people: in this respect it is a reflection of the culture and of the ideal
of culture for an era." (cit.dal web propr. 25/8/2004)

STOA IMAGES GALLERY
"This machine, icon.stoa.org, is a dedicated image-server maintained
by the Stoa Consortium for the use of
scholars who would like to share, on an Open Access basis, their digital
photographs and digital videos related to Classics, Classical
Archaeology, and the classical tradition. To that end we have
installed Gallery image-management software. "With Gallery you can easily
create and maintain albums of photos via an intuitive interface. Photo
management includes automatic thumbnail creation, image resizing, rotation,
ordering, captioning, searching and more. Albums can have read, write and
caption permissions per individual authenticated user for an additional
level of privacy." The web interface is extremely simple and offers numerous
alternative methods for uploading images and videos, including direct exports
to Gallery albums from within OS X iPhoto or from a Windows XP album."

GERRITSEN COLLECTION - Women's History Online 1543-1945
http://gerritsen.chadwyck.com/
"In the late 1800's, Dutch physician and feminist Aletta Jacobs and
her husband C.V. Gerritsen began collecting books, pamphlets and periodicals
reflecting the revolution of a feminist consciousness and the movement
for women's rights. By the time their successors finished their work in
1945, the Gerritsen Collection was the greatest single source for the study
of women's history in the world, with materials spanning four centuries
and 15 languages...
...Now in Digital Format - Newly Accessible to Researchers to All Levels
Gerritsen Online finally brings this rich resource to the Web, with
a search interface so easy to use that even undergraduates can conduct
cross-cultural research in depth. Created from the full UMI® microform
collection and developed by the Chadwyck-Healey online resources group,
it delivers all 2,000,000 page images exactly as they appeared in the original
printed works...The Gerritsen curators gathered more than 4,700 publications
from continental Europe, the U.S., the United Kingdom, Canada, and New
Zealand, dating from 1543-1945. The anti-feminist case is presented as
well as the pro-feminist; many other titles present a purely objective
record of the condition of women at a given time.
The broad scope of Gerritsen Online allows scholars to trace the evolution
of feminism within a single country, as well as the impact of one country's
movement on those of the others. In many cases, it also provides easy access
to primary sources otherwise available only in a few rare book rooms. Gerritsen
Online consists of two segments: the Periodical Series and the Monograph
Language Series." (cit.dal web propr. 25/8/2004)

JOHN DONNE SERMONS
"Though John Donne is known to his twenty-first century reader primarily as a poet, it is as a preacher that he reached his highest fame during his lifetime, and for his sermons that he expected to be remembered. From his first extant sermon in April 1615, delivered before Queen Anne when Donne was a newly-minted clergyman, to his famous last sermon Death's Duell , Donne's homiletic work displays a remarkable range of learning and interest. At the heart of Donne's sermons lies an energy of mind that exhorts its audience to attend, to reflect, and even to wrestle with God after the example of Donne himself. Though Donne's seventeenth-century biographer, Izaak Walton, viewed the poet-preacher as a contemporary version of Augustine, a sinner who cast aside his rakish youth and submitted his will to God, the sermons suggest that spiritual anxiety and uncertainty continued to be a hallmark of Donne's religious observance. The sermons sound heights of spiritual rapture as well as plumbing the depths of existential and eschatological doubt. He uses the public pulpit to puzzle over the difficulties of his personal faith, collapsing the space between speaker and audience and giving voice to a multiplicity of experiences. His sentences are marked by a syntactic richness gained from fluency in Latin and Hebrew, and his meditations—far from the plain speech prized by radical religious reformers—are crammed with figuration..." PROGETTO PICO
http://www.brown.edu/Departments/Italian_Studies/pico/

AER Project - Proyecto de Archivos Españoles en Red
http://aer.mcu.es/sgae/index_aer.jsp
"The AER Project (Proyecto de Archivos Españoles en Red, Spanish
Archives on the Net) is a worldwide pioneering project whose fundamental
purpose is to make the content of Spanish Archives available over the Internet,
incorporating both descriptions and digitised images of documents kept
in the main Spanish Archives.
The AER project was developed by the Spanish State Archives Bureau
of the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport in response to the need
to tackle the challenges to archives presented by new information technologies.
The objectives of the AER project are very clear:
1 to provide instant free access to the Spanish Archives for the international
research community and members of the general public;
2 to facilitate and promote research work;
3 to bring the Archives closer to members of the public so that they
can better defend their rights;
4 to disseminate its high-quality cultural content over the Internet
in the Spanish language;
5 to better preserve and disseminate the content of the Archives through
digitisation.
AER is giving enormous visibility to the documentary heritage housed
in Spanish Archives over the Internet. Of the various ‘memory’ institutions,
archives are perhaps the least well represented on the Internet and the
least likely to make use of the new possibilities offered by Internet technology.
Archives must accept new challenges, play a more active role in the dissemination
of information, and respond to ever more demanding and qualified user demands.
The AER platform makes standardised pre-existing State Archive databases
available over the Internet and links archival descriptions to a digital
image of the document. AER provides instant, free access to over 15 million
images of documents and descriptions from anywhere in the world, 24 hours
a day." (cit.dal web propr. 16/9/2004)

DIZIONARIO INVERSO

RAMBI - The Index of Articles on Jewish Studies
"...is a selective bibliography of articles in the various fields of
Jewish studies and in the study of Eretz Israel. Material listed in Rambi
is compiled from thousands of periodicals and from collections of articles
- in Hebrew, Yiddish, and European languages- mainly from the holdings
of the Jewish National and University Library, a world center for research
on the Jewish people and Eretz Israel. The main criterion for inclusion
in the bibliography is that the article be based on scientific research,
or contain important information for such research. Since the inception
of this bibliographic project in 1966, the editorial board has striven
to include in it all of the important articles published throughout the
world in the field of Judaica. Therefore, it includes offprints of articles
from journals or collections not on order to the Library. Rambi also lists
articles from secondary sources...
...A typical record contains the following information: author(s);
article title; abbreviated source name; citation (volume, issue, year,
pages); narrow and broad subject classifications; full source name, including
place of publication; year of publication; language of article. Every record
in the Rambi database contains two distinct subject classification fields:
a general classification field (e.g. Bible; Diaspora; Philosophy), and
specific subject headings (e.g. Genesis: 1; USA: education; Maimonides:
Moreh Nevukhim). Attempts are made to utilize the two fields in tandem
to provide maximum subject descriptions of the articles." (cit.dal web

PALEOBIOLOGY DATABASE
"The Paleobiology Database is a public resource for the scientific
community. It has been organized and operated by a multi-disciplinary,
multi-institutional, international group of paleobiological researchers.
Its purpose is to provide global, collection-based occurrence and taxonomic
data for marine and terrestrial animals and plants of any geological age,
as well as web-based software for statistical analysis of the data...The
Database currently includes six main tables: references, taxonomic names,
taxonomic opinions, primary collection data, taxonomic occurrences, and
reidentifications of occurrences. The tables are tied together relationally
with record ID numbers. Most tables are relatively simple; the collection
table has many fields that are described on a separate database structure
page. We are working to add tables that will handle taxonomic authority
information and taxonomic opinions (e.g., synonymies). At a later date
we will add tables to handle phylogenetic relationships, ecomorphological
attributes, stratigraphic sections, radioisotopic age estimates, and other
data." (cit.dal web propr. 26/8/2004)

CRITICAL READING - An introduction to literary
theory and criticism
"This guide attempts to introduce literary theory and criticism to
an undergraduate or otherwise uninitiated audience. As an introduction,
what I offer is admittedly reductive. The issues, concepts, and practices
are far more complex than I can describe here (and I continue to learn,
too). I assume that readers are keenly aware that they should read primary
texts as well as the critical commentary I cannot provide here. My experience
tells me that one just needs to take a step in any direction. My goal is
not to provide in-depth coverage; instead, I want to offer a framework
that will help readers use different theories and reading practices while
also inviting them to learn more. Each page is divided into three main
sections that attempt to answer three questions suggested by David Richter's
anthology Falling Into Theory:
Why Do We Read?
What Do We Read?
How Do We Read?
You will also find some writing suggestions that accompany each reading
strategy as well as outside resources." (cit.dal web propr. 31/8/2004)

PARCHI LETTERARI
I giovani, in particolare,
coniugando tradizione e innovazione, vocazione naturale e spirito imprenditoriale,
possono diventare i protagonisti di uno sviluppo compatibile, diffuso e
diversificato.
Eventi speciali, teatro, visite, accoglienza, eno-gastronomia, artigianato,
costruire imprese innovative." (cit.dal web propr. 31/8/2004)

JEWISH LANGUAGES RESEARCH WEBSITE
"Throughout the world, wherever Jews have lived, they have spoken and/or
written differently from the non-Jews around them. Their languages have
differed by as little as a few embedded Hebrew words or by as much as a
highly variant grammar. A good deal of research has been devoted to a number
of Jewish languages, including Yiddish, Judeo-Spanish, Judeo-Arabic, Judeo-Italian,
Jewish English, and Jewish Neo-Aramaic. This website displays information
about several Jewish languages, as well as about some of the researchers
who have written about them. The Jewish Language Research Website has three
goals:
-To serve as a resource for the field of Jewish linguistics - the study
of Jewish languages on an individual and comparative basis - encouraging
collaboration among scholars of various Jewish languages
-To provide information and bibliographic references for linguists
and Jewish studies scholars who wish to incorporate Jewish languages into
their research
-To provide an introduction to Jewish languages for the general public."

SHAKESPEARE IN QUARTO
"On this site you will find the British Library’s 93 copies of the
21 plays by Shakespeare printed in quarto before the theatres were closed
in 1642. Why are the quartos important? None of Shakespeare’s manuscripts
survive, so the printed texts of his plays are our only source for what
he originally wrote. The quarto editions are the texts closest to Shakespeare’s
time. Some are thought to preserve either his working drafts (his foul
papers) or his fair copies. Others are thought to record versions remembered
by actors who performed the plays, providing information about staging
practices in Shakespeare’s day." (cit. dal web propr. 16/9/04)

El cuarto volumen es un estudio de los mapas que integran la muestra cartográfica;
Extremadura." (cit. dal web propr. 16/9/04)

World Heritage
"The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization
(UNESCO)
seeks to encourage the identification, protection and preservation of cultural
and natural heritage around the world considered to be of outstanding value
to humanity. This is embodied in an international treaty called the Convention
concerning the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage ,
adopted by UNESCO in 1972.
Cultural heritage refers to monuments, groups of buildings and properties
with historical, aesthetic, archaeological, scientific, ethnological or
anthropological value.
Natural heritage refers to outstanding physical, biological and geological
formations, habitats of threatened species of animals and plants and areas
with scientific, conservation or aesthetic value." (cit.dal web propr.

ODLIS - Online Dictionary for Library
and Information Science
"ODLIS is designed to be a hypertext reference resource for library
and information science professionals, university students and faculty,
and users of all types of libraries. The primary criterion for including
a term is whether a librarian or other information professional might reasonably
be expected to encounter it at some point in his (or her) professional
career, or be required to know its meaning in the course of executing his
or her duties and responsibilities as a librarian. A newly coined term
is added when, in the author's judgment, it seems likely to become a permanent
addition to the lexicon of library and information science. Since the author's
professional training occurred in the United States, the dictionary reflects
North American practice. However, because the dictionary was first developed
as an online resource available worldwide, with an e-mail contact address
for feedback, users from many countries have contributed to its growth,
often suggesting additional terms and commenting on existing definitions.
Expansion of the dictionary is an ongoing process.
Broad in scope, ODLIS includes not only the terminology of the various
specializations within library science and information studies but also
the vocabulary of publishing, printing, binding, the book trade, graphic
arts, book history, literature, bibliography, telecommunications, and computer
science when, in the author's judgment, a definition might prove helpful
to librarians and information specialists in their work. Entries are descriptive,
with examples provided in boldface when appropriate. The definitions of
terms used in Anglo-American Cataloging Rules follow AACR2 closely and
are therefore intended to be prescriptive. The dictionary includes some
slang terms and idioms, and a few obsolete terms, often as See references
to the term in current use. When the meaning of a term varies according
to the field in which it is used, priority is given to the definition that
applies within the field with which it is most closely associated. Definitions
unrelated to library and information science are generally omitted. As
a rule, definition is given under an acronym only when the full term is
rarely used. Alphabetization is letter-by-letter. The authority for spelling
and hyphenation is Webster's New World Dictionary of the American Language
(College Edition). URLs are current as of date of publication." (cit.dal
web propr. 26/8/2004)

Babelteka - Biblioteca pubblica distribuita

High-tech tool saves archaeological treasures
"Gli scienziati dell'Idaho National Engineering and Environmental Laboratory

Big Search Engine Index, A directory
of Search Engines and Directories, ne elenca centinaia e centinaia
suddivisi in 200 nazioni.

Thesaurus tramite i link ipertestuali.
